Savannah Whitmire
Name: Savannah Whitmire
High School: Flowery Branch High School (Hall County)
College (Current or Future): University of North Georgia
Major/Intended Major: Accounting with minor in Graphic Design
Financial Aid Program: HOPE Scholarship
Savannah Whitmire wanted a chance to genuinely focus on her education without the worry of how to finance it. With the HOPE Scholarship, she was able to start planning for her future with minimal debt.
“Being an award recipient has allowed me to genuinely focus on my studies. I appreciate the chance to get a head start with minimal debt. The best part of receiving the scholarship was when I learned I wouldn’t have to worry about loans for many years to come,” said Whitmire.
Her interest is to pursue accounting until she can find a job with her alternate passion, graphic design. “After taking digital fabrication, I learned that I enjoyed creating graphics. When I started doing back-office training where I work, that is when I decided I should try out accounting. Accounting is a good starting field with plenty of jobs available and the most appealing part of being an accounting major is the pay that will come with it. I try to make financially sound decisions to help myself in the future.” Whitmire said.
Whitmire cites her significant other, counselor and cat as her sources of inspiration and encouragement. “My significant other is super supportive of me and my decisions so that helps to encourage me. For graphic design, I was inspired by my counselor to pursue the things I enjoy. Lastly, I have a cat, and she's one of my best friends.” said Whitmire.
For students, Whitmire advises establishing solid relationships with those surrounding yourself including professors. “Students need a rain jacket, umbrella, and some good walking shoes. Also, participation is beneficial for your grades.”
Whitmire graduated with distinction and received high scores on her AP exams along with being the president of the National Art Honors Society as well as art club in high school. She managed the academic team for two years and participated in the National Honors Society and Spanish National Honors Society. Whitmire invests most of her energy working, contemplating craftsmanship and art projects, and concentrating on self-improvement.
