TCSG Teams With Morris Brown For More Four-Year Graduates
Morris Brown College recently announced a partnership to enroll more Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) graduates pursuing bachelor’s degrees in two business-related programs.
“It is my goal that students complete a quality education,” said Morris Brown president Kevin James, “and are not saddled in debt and immediately prepared to go into the workforce.”
Effective immediately, the Atlanta college will accept all credits from graduates of any of the TCSG's 22 schools who want degrees in Organizational Management & Leadership or Hospitality Management.
“This articulation agreement is an excellent opportunity for TCSG students,” said TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier, “who are interested in pursuing a four-year degree to continue their educational journey right here in Georgia.”
TCSG schools have partnered with other HBCUs, such as a 2017 agreement between Clark Atlanta University and Georgia Piedmont Technical College also aimed at easing the transition into the university.
The HOPE Grant is available for all Georgia residents interested in attending a TCSG. Watch this video for more information.
Award Recipient - Kimberly Lopez
GSFC administers a variety of programs, assisting residents with making their postsecondary dreams affordable and Kimberly Lopez has taken full advantage.
“I’m about to finish my college career and I have zero loans,” said Lopez. “Not a lot of people can say that and I can accredit that to programs like the Scholarship for Engineering Education (SEE) bringing down the cost of my tuition.”
SEE is specifically for students enrolled at Mercer University and admitted into an approved engineering program. Lopez was admitted to Mercer after using Dual Enrollment to earn college credits while in high school.
“With the help of these programs and scholarships,” said Lopez, “I’ve been able to significantly reduce my college tuition.”
Her academic achievements in high school earned her the HOPE Scholarship, paying a portion of her tuition from the moment she stepped on campus. Located in the heart of Macon, the private college is one of the Best Values among top-tier national universities.
To encourage residents like Lopez to stay in state and attend schools like Mercer, the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant provides assistance towards educational costs.
A fourth-year senior with more than 80 percent of her credit requirement for graduation, Lopez recently received the Georgia College Completion Grant in hopes of becoming her family’s first college graduate.
“For me, any money goes a long way,” said Lopez, “so it’s been really helpful not to have that financial burden weighing on me.”

Georgia College books to be covered by First Day Complete
All Georgia College & State University (GCSU) undergraduate students will have access to all required textbooks thanks to a bookstore.
Barnes and Nobel College recently announced the launch of First Day Complete. Starting August 2023, all GCSU students will have access to textbooks, lab manuals, electronic books and digital materials before the first day of class.
“This will better prepare students for the academic term and may help them complete courses and achieve better grades,” said Dr. Mark Pelton, the Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at Georgia College & State University. “We believe First Day Complete will have a positive impact and will be a wining solution for our students, faculty, and the university as a whole."
With First Day Complete, instead of purchasing course materials a la carte, the cost is included in each student’s account when tuition is charged. In July 2023, students will receive an email from the Georgia College bookstore prompting them to select their preferred delivery method for fall semester materials. The bookstore will prepare materials for each student and notify them when materials are available for in-store pickup or have shipped. Digital materials will be automatically delivered to students.
“We are excited to announce that Georgia College and State University is the first University System of Georgia institution to adopt First Day Complete,” said Jonathan Shar, President, Barnes & Noble College. “First Day Complete ensures students are prepared to begin learning on day one.”
