GEORGIA MATCH Is Here!
Paper was folded, envelopes stuffed, and one of the largest state-run direct admissions initiatives in the nation began earlier this month. Over 120,000 Georgia high school seniors will receive a personalized letter from Governor Brian Kemp listing the numerous colleges and universities holding a spot for them for the Fall 2024 semester.
“GEORGIA MATCH is a great example of the historic success we can achieve when stakeholders across the education spectrum work together,” announced Kemp during the inaugural Governor’s Workforce Summit. “This program will ensure that every high school student in our state knows they have options to learn and succeed here in (Georgia).”
November is Georgia Apply to College (GAC) Month and all GEORGIA MATCH participating institutions will have application waiver fees for students. GAC events will provide all seniors a designated time to learn more about opportunities available to them after high school. Visit the Financial Aid Events calendar to find an event near you.
Apply To College Month Is Days Away!
This November, we are excited to partner with the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia to offer Georgia high school seniors application fee waivers in honor of Georgia Apply to College Month.

HOPE Career Grant Assists With Commercial Trucking
The HOPE Career Grant adds additional funds for those enrolled in select majors where there are more jobs available than skilled workers to fill them. Majors like Commercial Truck Driving, where the Capitol Beat reports of a persistent shortage of workers in one of the state’s key industries.
“It’s been an issue for a while,” said Seth Millican, executive director of the Georgia Transportation Alliance, an affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. “The pandemic and supply chain crunch we saw directed a lot of attention to it.”
Ray Perren, the Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG) deputy commissioner for technical education, said more than half of the commercial trucking workforce is within five years of retirement and students don’t realize there’s good money to be made in the field. Graduates of the program earn starting salaries of at least $42,000 a year.
“That’s not a bad salary for a five-week training program,” Perren said. “There’s a lot of earning potential in this career.”
Commercial Truck Driving is a TSCG-Eligible Program where students are not required to graduate from high school with a specific GPA to be eligible for the HOPE Grant? Learn more about these programs with plenty of opening in Georgia by visiting TCSG for more information.
