GEORGIA MATCH informing, encouraging seniors about college
Over 130,000 letters were mailed to Georgia high school seniors last fall, the initial launch of the largest direct admission program in the country. GEORGIA MATCH had generated more than 12,000 requests for information to start the new year and, according to Capitol Beat, more is expected from University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Sonny Perdue.
“It’s working as we hoped,” said Perdue to the USG Board of Regents last month. “(But) it’s the beginning. We’re just getting started.”
“It’s incredible what we’re doing,” said Regent Jose Perez of Peachtree Corners. “We’re chasing students and trying to bring them in.”

REACH Georgia on virtual display at UNG
The University of Georgia (UNG) recently hosted over 200 scholars from 25 school districts during their 4th annual Virtual College Information Day. Students attended education sessions learning more about financial aid, how to navigate your freshman year and heard from five current UNG students.
"The advice I gave them was to not let age be the determining factor for what they want to do with their degree. As I always say, 'If you're good enough, you're old enough,'" said Christopher Hale, vice president of the Gainesville Campus Student Government Association. "It's important to not be so set on making a living for your entire existence that you end up forgetting to make a life. Never chase titles. Go for passion."
"Being able to host the REACH Georgia event allows UNG to demonstrate its commitment to providing access and ongoing support for students who may have not considered college as an option," said Dr. Alyson Paul, a four-time REACH Georgia mentor and UNG interim vice president for Student Affairs. "Familiarizing students and their high school counselors with the terminology, timelines and opportunities on a college campus can reduce both perceived and real barriers for attending college."
REACH Georgia is Georgia’s first needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. All digital content concerning REACH Georgia will now be found on GAfutures, Georgia’s top resource to help students plan and apply for their post-secondary education.
