Congratulations Seniors!!!
There are plenty of steps to take once you've tossed your cap in celebration of your graduation. Our College Planning Timeline can help you stay organized and be prepared as you plan for your education after high school. Here are a few tips to make sure you can enjoy this summer as you start your next step.
- "Postsecondary education” can mean almost any type of education or training beyond high school. Statistics show completing some type of postsecondary education often leads to increased income and opportunities.
- The deadline for Georgia high schools to electronically submit their graduating seniors’ final transcript record is June 30. If after June 30 your final transcript record is not available in your GAfutures account, please contact your high school.
- Your best plan starts by logging into your GAfutures account. Don’t have one yet? Create one today!
Once again, congratulations on your accomplishment and best of luck with your future.
Skilled Trade Program Enrollment On The Rise
There are shortages in skilled laborers like carpenters, auto technicians and manufacturing positions. These employment opportunities are needed now more than ever and recently published reports show students are taking advantage.
Recent enrollment data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center shows trade school interest is rising with double-digit increases in many vocational programs, including mechanic, repair, construction, and culinary courses.
According to The Hechinger Report, many young people choose to pursue short-term credentials over a four-year college because it's a quicker and more affordable path to a good job.
“These kids are looking for relevance," said Jean Eddy, president of American Student Assistance, a nonprofit dedicated to helping students make informed choices about their educations and careers. "They want to be able to connect what they’re learning with what happens next.”
This is a big opportunity for dedicated men and women to learn a skilled trade and benefit from the positives of these high demand occupations. For Georgians interested in industries where there are more jobs available in the state than there are skilled workers to fill them, check out the HOPE Career Grant.
There are also eligible programs where free tuition is available at any school in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) for potential skilled laborers? Students enrolled in an approved program of study who are eligible for, and receiving, HOPE or Zell Miller Grant funding, may also be eligible for funding from the HOPE Career Grant.
Read about Rachel Shay, who used this program to become an air conditioning maintenance technician or watch the video below for more information about the HOPE Career Grant.
Dual Enrollment Offers A Taste Of College For Free
If you think you’re up to the challenge, there are some great benefits to taking college-level classes, including getting a taste of the college experience for an easier transition, taking classes that may not be offered at your high school, building confidence and increasing your educational and career opportunities.
Dual Enrollment offers students the opportunity to experience college courses and begin their college academic career while still in high school. Check out these success stories from across the state.
