Middle Georgia State offers Dual Enrollment degree opportunities
Houston County students will soon have a chance to graduate high school with an Associates degree in computer science from Middle Georgia State University (MGA). Fox 31 WFXL recently reported about a new program coming this fall to MGA's Warner Robins campus.
"There is a tremendous need for computer science degrees in this region and throughout Georgia," said Dr. Alex Koohang, Dean of MGA School of Computing. "These programs will help prepare students for high-demand careers in software engineering, computer design, computer programming, and coding and more."
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia recently approved MGA's computer science program of study at the bachelor's and associate's degree levels. It will also allow Georgia Academy student to transfer into their bachelor's degree dual-enrollment program for high-achieving upperclassmen.
"We’re excited about the potential of these new degrees," said Koohang, "to help support the missions planned for Robins Air Force Base by creating a workforce pipeline of skilled professionals.”

Augusta Advantage streamlines for transfer students with HOPE
Two leading institutions in Augusta are joining to provide Georgia residents in the region with an educational opportunity.
“Today is a historic day for the greater Augusta region,” Augusta Technical College President Jermaine Whirl, EdD, said to Jag Wire. “The new Augusta Advantage pathway program between Augusta Tech and Augusta University truly will be Augusta’s competitive advantage in ensuring the region has the workforce it needs today and for years to come.”
Augusta Advantage allows for easy transfer of core curriculum credits, including earning credits to complete up to the first 60 hours in the areas of business administration, communication, computer science, dental hygiene, kinesiology, nursing, political science, psychology, respiratory therapy, and social work.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these students each year, but we also realize their path to transfer those credits and become a part of our campus can sometimes be challenging,” said Augusta University President Brooks A. Keel, PhD.
“By providing better pathways to earn a bachelor’s degree, Augusta University and Augusta Technical College aim to help improve these students’ economic prosperity for many years to come.”
This program is open to all students seeking both an associate and bachelor’s degree, which includes high school students using Dual Enrollment. Eligible students will also be able to take advantage of the HOPE Scholarship at both institutions under this new program.
